An Ode to Summer

There is something about summer that brings out the best in me . . . or maybe it's just the beach bum in me. I absolutely love the beach!!! The beautiful, breathtaking sunrise and sunsets. The ocean breezes sweeping you away and the sun leaving it's mark on you with a tan. I just don't think it can get better than relaxing at the beach.
My summer started off with the beach and ended with a cruise and tubing down the river. For memorial day, I had my first experience known in the Mormon YSA world as "Duck Beach." We journeyed to Duck/Corolla of OBX with friends to meet other ysa from all over the USA. Although it wasn't the "life changing" experience that I had heard about for so long it was a great time. Most of all it was getting to spend time with the dearest of friends and just enjoying this amazing earth that God has blessed us with. I also fulfilled a childhood dream of getting to see the wild horses. And the mini road trip to Hatteras for doughnuts at the Orange Blossom Bakery was delcious as always. . .mmmm it is the simple things in life.
Unfortunately, the rest of my summer wasn't spent at the beach due to the intense heat wave. But the end of summer made up for the lack of weekend road trips to the beach.
On August 27th I left Richmond to venture to the west coast (1st time for me)to catch a cruise out of LA. This cruise had been in planning since January, so we were more than ready for the arrival of this trip. The cruise explored Mexico including ports in Puerta Vallarta, Mazatlan and Cabo. We started in LA for a couple days to see the well known sites of santa monica pier, hollywood, rodeo drive and let's not forget some In & Out Burger and Jamba Juice. The best though was beinging in the LA temple with Claire and Stephanie. Then we joined a group of other LDS YSA for the cruise . . .we meaning Claire, Stephanie, Brianna, Heidi, Amelia, Nate and I. My favorite moment of the trip was the canopy adventure ziplining, repelling and hiking through the mountains of Puerta Vallarta. We were all really disappointed when we couldn't get off in Cabo due to rough waters. So sad!!! No worries though cause we have now put Cabo on the future travel plan list:0) I would like to say that my cruise ended on a good note but unfortunately I spent the last couple days of it pretty sick and ready to go home. Fortunately, we flew back in time for Labor Day and summer ended on on fabulous note!!! There is a yearly tradition of tubing down the river for the 4th of July. This year it got put off until Labor Day and the weather was absolutely wonderful for it. I was so grateful for the fresh air, great weather & enjoying the holiday with some of my favorite people ever.
To end I would like to tell you that I have a lot to be grateful for such as good health, a job, a home sweet home, a car that runs, the gospel, family and the list goes on and on. Most of all I have each of you and your friendship. I love that I have awesome friends that make good travel companions and that I get to share new adventures and old traditions with. I thank God for each of you and the blessing that you are in my life. Here's to many more adventures with each of you!!!
